Our Mission

By

Pandit Roop Sukhram

The mission of Hindu University Online is to establish a Samskritika Pratishthaana (Hindu University for teaching Vedic knowledge) that would have a curriculum to teach the original aspects of Sanaatan Dharma. The following outlines some of the subjects, among many subjects that will be included:

· Languages: Samskrita and Hindi.

· Philosophy: Meemaamsaa philosophy and the epistemology of Meemaamsaa, among other Indian systems of belief.

· Veda: How to interpret the Vedas, the correct method of interpreting the Vedas and the importance of meters (Chhandas).

· Upanishad: Understanding the Upanishad and other Hindu texts, which include the knowledge of being able to recognize the trueness of Hindu Scriptural texts versus “additions” by foreigners, and how to recognize fake writings within major Puraanic texts. What are considered Scriptural texts versus general literature? What is the true chronicle of the life of Shree Raam as told by various writers, and how to discern the Raamaayana that is considered Hindu Scripture, versus the ones that are written as mere story.

· Priesthood & Rituals: Classes in the art of Karmakaanda - Duties of a priest in regards to ceremonial rites will be offered to aspiring and practicing priests. Training will include correct pronunciation of mantra and the correct method of performing various puja (rituals). The importance of acquiring all ingredients for puja, and in the event an item is not available, what substitute item can be used, etc. Additionally, HU will create a special program from beginner to advance levels for the purpose of training and qualifying Pandits.

All programs will be strictly supervised and instructed by qualified personnel and Aachaarayas from India. There will be regular interaction and supervision between HU and various Indian institutions that would ensure the integrity of all curriculums. Additionally, it is my desire to create an annually all expenses paid scholarship for qualifying graduates to spend one year in India for further studies.

“Bring a Brick”

Over 40 years ago I nurtured the idea that there is an imperative need for a renewed Veda consciousness. Hence, my mission is to offer and disseminate the knowledge of the Vedas from a Hindu standpoint, which is quite apart from the colonial brainwashing translations that are circulated.

My resolve and motivation to translate the Vedas was nurtured from the courage of my Aajaa - paternal grandfather Deenanaatha Chaturvedi, whose tenacity forged a new path in a foreign land where he was a stranger, but for the solid companion he always had, the Vedas.

I have just released the first volume of Rig Veda that I have translated and edited with an exegetical commentary. The continuation of my dedication will be revealed in the second volume, which will contain other chapters of the Rig Veda, with original Samskrita text, transliterated and translated into English language.

For over 200 years, the history of the nauseating trend of misinterpreting the Vedas, started long before with various invaders of India. Hence, translations of the Vedas have been published by various writers from all parts of the world, who truly believed themselves scholars and authority of the Vedas. Far from the truth, their juvenile scribbles can be likened to delinquents biting into a precious gem with hope of devouring the source of its value.

Being a disciple of the Vedas, and being fully aware of the ill-translations of the Vedas that are the only ones presently available, and with the equal feelings of confidence that many thirst for a true interpretation of the Vedas, I feel it is my moral and obligatory duty to present a true and scholastic interpretation and translation of the Vedas.

By translation, I do not mean a mere rendering of Veda mantra into English, I mean a scholastic interpretation and deciphering of every word of the mantra, while at the same time, keeping within the perimeter of the rules mandated for interpreting Veda text. Not only do I stand within this premise, but I am also bounded within the constraint of interpretations and commentaries rendered by ancient Samskrita scholars. Additionally, in every instant possible, I have given a full account and reason to justify the intention of my interpretation; not random or irrational conclusion. Hence, through the blessings of God Almighty Bhagavan Shiva, my life is dedicated to translating the rest of the Vedas.

These are the very thoughts among others that goaded me into dedicating my life in disseminating and advocating the trueness of the Vedas. However, merely writing and giving lectures is not enough to usher the revival of this new wave of Vedic Renaissance. Hence, the need for a full blown Vedic University that is far removed from the Colonial-Christians biased brainwashing is a high priority for all Hindus.

I am quite aware that such a task is monumental and almost impossible for any single person to accomplish, but I believe that I am not alone in this mission. Together we can prevail; if each of us brings a single brick, together, we can build a castle overnight.

To assist in this sacred mission, the proceedings from sales of the translation of the Rig Veda that I have written and other volumes in the future will go towards this project becoming a reality. Hence, I am not asking that any of you should give up your life; just bring a brick.

I remain,

Yours in Dharma,

Pandit Roop Sukhram
